The 7th Coming of Windows and a Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year Everyone!

I've decided to stray off of the path for the first topic I had originally planned on writing about. Instead I am informing everyone that I finally installed Windows 7 onto my laptop. I have to say all the reviewers were right. I've heard for months upon months that Windows 7 vastly improved over it's predecessor Vista. So many reviewers, fellow bloggers and many of my friends have sang 7's praises. Sometimes it felt like the praise was so good it was like people were gearing up for the second coming of Christ (hence why I call it the 7th coming of Windows)

I have to say, Windows 7 is vastly different from the Left Behind books. The installation process was so simple. All I had to do was pick my partition, choose a name for my computer and choose which wireless network to connect to. That's it. The system did the rest and very quickly too. I';m used to having to leave my computer for hours to wait for operating systems to install, so it was a treat to see how quickly it was finished. When I first saw a screen for Windows 7, I thought it still looked a lot like Vista. In a way it still does, but I like the organization a lot better. I love having the search bar in the start screen. This was one of the features of Vista I loved and I'm glad they kept it.

I think the task bar is awesome. I never used to like how they grouped tasks together, but now that you can actually see what specific website or folder you are looking for it makes it a lot easier.

I love themes. I have always loved messing around with the desktop. I love being able to change the colors of the task bar and the sounds so easily. Currently I have awesome D&D background with purple task bar and Sonata sounds (like you really cared to know)

Also, my 64 bit version of 7 runs a lot smoother than the 32bit Vista I was running (it came with the computer and was to lazy to downgrade). I don't understand why by now Windows refuses to make an all 64 bit OS. Pretty much all computers since 2004 have been able to run 64 bit operating systems. I guess it's a good thing due to the fact Windows isn't making things systemically obsolete as quick, but really it gives more time to companies like Adobe who have been ridiculously slow in creating programs that work with 64bit OS's. *shakes fist at Adobe*

Anyway, I, like pretty much everyone else agrees that Windows 7 is prettier, faster and all around better than it's predecessor. It's totally worth the buy, but if you can try to milk discounts. Windows 7 costs about $300. I was able to score 7 Pro for $37, but that's because I was a college student. So, make sure to look at the discounts you may be eligible for.

Well, 2009 is almost over and it's time to reflect on the things we've done and the things we want to accomplish in the new year. I have three New Years Resolutions that I hope to be able to say I have done but the end of 2010

1. Work on updating this blog at least twice a week.

2. Organize all of my stuff and my finances.

3. Take the LSAT's and complete some law school applications

First Post/Inspiration

Hello!

I am The Sexy Techie. I am an all around geek. I also believe that more women need to be more geeky. I do not believe that I am going to change the world by modeling, or being a fashion designer. I want to change the world by inspiring more women to pursue science, technology, politics and academia.

Since I just proclaimed that I am a geek, I feel that it appropriate I build up my geek cred. I have grown up around geeks. My dad was obsessed with the original Star Trek and he got my mom obsessed with The Next Generation. I could honestly fall asleep to the sounds of the U.S.S. Enterprise. As I am writing, I am sitting in my family's guest bedroom next to the book shelf full of Star Trek novels. My brother also branched out and was a Star Wars and Babylon 5 fan as well. I resisted being a Trekkie (Or Trekker as my dad calls it) for the longest time, but I realize that Star Trek was a great show, though my favorite Star Trek is still The Next Generation.

I fell in love with video games when I was young. I remember bugging my brother into letting me play Wolfenstein on our DOS Computer. We are Nintendo gamers and have had all the consoles (except for the Virtual Boy and the Game Boy Pocket) at some point. (Not to say Sega wasn't awesome...) My best friend and I played Donkey Kong Country for hours, for I only fueled her obsession with video games.

In high school I became obsessed with anime. Other than Sailor Moon and DBZ, one of my good friends made me watch Neon Genesis Evangelion. From there, I was hooked. I've watched lots of different animes and was even the president of my college's anime club.

I had the idea after watching the anime Serial Experiments Lain I decided that I wanted to build my own computer. It is very fun and actually very easy. The hard part is picking out the best hardware that will go together. I also have taken apart iPods and replaced batteries and such so they last longer.

My friends in college introduced me to Dungeons and Dragons. Yes, I admit I love sitting around a table, rolling dice and pretending to be a half orc fighter than can scare most people into submission. Recently I have made the investment into buying the Pathfinder Core book. I just played in one of the written campaigns which was very fun.

I just recently (meaning a week ago) graduated from college. I have two bachelor's degrees in Political Science and Economics. I love reading opinions and economist's blogs. I love discussing politics with my friends, though most of them usually do not because it either bores them to death or sparks a heated argument.

I was recently inspired by the movie Julie and Julia to write a blog. I wanted to see the movie cause I remember watching Julia Child when I was younger on Saturday afternoons with my dad. (And listening to my dad's ridiculous impersonation of her). I saw Julie, who wrote a blog about her experiences learning about Julia and cooking from her cookbook. I believe that I can write an interesting blog about my experiences in the geek world.

I have a slight ego. I am a female and I am ridiculously geeky. (And slightly cute on top of that as well) To be honest, there is no shortage of guys that are interested in me. Yet lately I've been violently thrown off of my high horse. My boyfriend hasn't wanted to see or speak to me in a week, and we aren't spending Christmas together this year. I have felt very sad, upset and lonely. I've been learning a great lesson through the sadness and loinliness. Previously, I have felt that because I am so geeky and fun that I thought everyone would just love me. Of course, relationships take work. I can't just assume anyone will want to be with me just because I'm geeky. I wasn't paying enough attention to him or his needs. Now that I finally realize that, I'm worried I'm not even going to have the chance to try again to be the girlfriend that he wants and needs.

But instead of moping around about my predicament, I have decided to become productive with the new time that I have been given to start this blog. My first topic will be video game marketing towards woman and girls. Future topics will also include Women in Comics, Women in Gaming, Fanfiction, My view of Feminism, Porn (cause that's what the internet is for...) and more as I come up with more ideas.
